According to the Association of Kazakh Automobile Business (AKAB), 2013 saw an impressive growth in sales of new cars and commercial vehicles in Kazakhstan. With 165,710 units sold last year, an increase of 70% year-on-year, Kazakhstan became the fastest growing car market in the region.
Sales of passenger cars increased by 76.7% to 153,664 units. With a market share of 46.2% B-segment cars remained the best-selling vehicles, while sales of SUVs showed significant growth enjoying a market share of 8.7%. With 12,046 units and a market share of 7.3%, commercial vehicle sales were up 6.78% in 2013.
In terms of geographical distribution of sales, the major cities where the largest number of new cars were sold is Almaty, Astana and Atyrau.
According to forecasts of AKAB, the new car market will grow by 30-40% per year in 2014-2015.
