SK Innovation Chooses Hungary For Its First European plant

KOMÁROM, 21 November -- The first European battery plant of Korean SK Innovation will be located in the Hungarian city of Komárom at the Komárom Industrial park. According to environmental planning documentation construction work will be launched in February, 2018 with production set to commence in January, 2020.

The plant lies on a 429,000 sqm land. It will produce 3rd and 4th generation lithium-ion batteries. Capacity is not specified.

Planning documents are now being approved by the local authorities.

SK Innovation is following its Korean rivals: in May, 2017 Samsung SDI inaugurated its battery plant in Komárom, while LG Chem will open its first European plant in Poland next year.
