Toyota Russia to Add Second Shift at St. Petersburg Plant

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia (TMMR), its vehicle production subsidiary in Russia, will start two-shift operations in September of this year. Approximately 600 new personnel have been hired in preparation, and TMMR forecasts that the number of plant employees will have reached approximately 1,750 when two-shift operations begin.

Production of the new Toyota Camry began at TMMR in November 2011. Sales of the new model in Russia surged 66% year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, while sales of Toyota vehicles in the Russian market increased by 22% to 32,859 units during the same period.

Moreover, to promote further localisation in Russia, a market promising continued sustained growth, TMMR announced in February this year that it plans to add stamping and resin-moulding processes to its production during 2014.
