Škoda is planning to commence exports from India in the near future, starting with its recently introduced Rapid sedan, which is slated to hit local showrooms on November 16th. The Rapid is based on the Volkswagen Vento, currently sold in India. The cars are identical save for the front end, taillights and some interior and exterior trim. The Rapid is available with a 1.6 liter petrol and diesel engines, both producing 105 hp. It is being built at VW’s Chakan plant in Pune along with the Škoda Fabia, the Volkswagen Polo and the Volkswagen Vento. The Rapid will be exported to neighboring right hand drive countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
