Volkswagen Plans New Investment at Polkowice Engine Plant

An agreement was signed earlier this week granting Volkswagen Motor Poland Sp. z o.o. financing from European Union funds for an investment project of considerable importance for the Polish economy. The grant is expected to be a total of more than 70 million zł (about €16 million).

The implementation of the project is planned between 2011-2014, and it involves the production of Volkswagen’s latest generation fuel-efficient, low-emission diesel engine. The investment will reportedly create over 150 permanent jobs in the region.

Around 600,000 diesel engines are manufactured each year at the Volkswagen plant in Polkowice, most of them 1.9 litre TDI units. More than 1,200 workers also produce various engine components such as camshafts, cylinder heads, crack connecting rods, cylinder crankcases and crankshafts.
