Flabeg Invests €7m to Build New Facility in Hungary

German car mirror producer Flabeg Holding today laid the cornerstone of a new manufacturing plant at its Máteszalka site, MTI reports. Construction of the 3,520sqm plant will be completed in 1Q 2012. Flabeg is also making a €500 thousand technology investment in instrument cluster glass manufacturing at its existing plant in Mateszalka.
The company wants to build another plant at the base by the end of 2013. The 2,000 square meter facility would make base materials for mirrors, which is currently imported from Germany.

Flaberg has been present in Hungary since 2000, when the company started production of automotive mirrors in rented premises. 2001 saw the inauguration of Flaberg’s own plant in Mátészalka, which, however was destroyed in a fire in 2009. Before the fire, the plant also turned out 12 million mirrors a year as well as 2 million instrument cluster glass, generating revenue of more than €19 million in 2008.

Flabeg Holding has 13 production bases in nine countries on three continents. The parent company had revenue of €183 million last year.

The new plant will double capacity of Flabeg’s Hungarian unit to 12 million mirrors annually
