Leoni AG, a German supplier of cables and wire harnesses for the automotive and other industries, has inaugurated a new production hall at its existing site in the south Serbian town of Prokuplje. The factory currently has a 1,000 strong workforce, but the number of employees is expected to reach 1,300 or 1,400 by the end of the year. Serbia’s Investment and Export Promotion Agency grantedthe project with €5,300 for each new job created.

Leoni set up the Prokuplje plant in December 2009 on the location of a former brake factory, Fiaz, bought earlier that year for 58 million Serbian dinars, the equivalent of €617,000 euros at the time.

The new production hall will manufacture wiring harnesses for BMW vehicles
