Audi Produced 18 per cent More Cars, 19 per cent More Engines at Hungarian Base in 2010

GYŐR, Hungary - German car maker Audi turned out 1,648,030 engines at its base in Hungary in 2010, 19% more than in the previous year, Audi Hungaria Motor said on Wednesday. The plant in Gyor, north-western Hungary, assembled 38,541 cars in 2010, 18.2% more than a year earlier.

Audi Hungaria turned out 1,284,967 four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, about 16% more than a year earlier. The number of five-cylinder petrol engines climbed 10% to 1,461. It made 328,138 six-cylinder engines, 31% more than in 2009. The number of eight-cylinder engines increased 80% to 27,406. The number of ten-cylinder engines rose 20% to 5,773, but the number of twelve-cylinder engines dropped 40% to 419.

About 20,400 Audi TT Coupe's rolled off the assembly line in 2010, 13% more than in the previous year. The number of TT Roadsters rose 21% to 5,804 and the number of A3 Cabriolet's climbed 26% to 12,309. Audi made 15 RS3 models, which it added to the plant's product palette last year.

Last year Audi Hungaria added 16 new engine variants to production at the plant and it opened an engine research centre. In November, the plant marked the assembly of half a million cars. In September, Audi Hungaria announced a EUR 900m investment at the plant which will boost the number of cars it makes to 125,000 from 2013.

Audi Hungaria started making body parts for the Audi RS 5 model in 2010, bringing the number of models for which it makes body parts to six.

Audi Hungaria had 6,139 employees at the end of 2010, up from 5,624 twelve months earlier.
