Dunya - Lithium-ion batteries, powering the next generation of private transportation, are expected to be locally produced in Turkey when electric cars take a hold in the country’s growing car market, thanks to a Turkish company’s USD 1 million investment in the research and development (R&D) of the technology.
Yigit Aku, a manufacturer of car batteries, has invested in a R&D lab, according to a written statement by the company, that aims to make the company a top name in Europe in lithium-ion battery production. The first in Turkey to establish a scientific base for the development of lithium-ion battery technology with 66 personnel, Yigit Aku has completed the feasibility and other studies for the lab, which is now in operation, the statement from the company read.
Most commonly found in cell phones and mobile computers, advanced lithium-ion power packs are also used in electric cars, touted to replace gas burning cars in the future.
